Critters and ponds go together. When we have a backyard wildlife habitat, we get the critters that come with it. Let's do the best we can do co-exist. You can just not invite most of these critters. The others we just have to live with.
Turtles will eat your water lilies. So will koi, crawfish, bass, perch or other lake fish. Raccoons and nutria will eat them as well. So will ducks and geese. I don't know about possums or muskrats, but I would not be surprised if they did.
You can have Pond Critters that do no harm at all and make your pond fun. You might find the perfect mother's day gift for your pond owning mother.

Hi Jan,
Found your blog on Garden Web, just wanted to say Hi! I live in Spain and have a question for you about my pond. At the moment don't have any fish, but would like to put some in. Can I put just normal Goldfish in, as it is a big pond and there are lots of frogs in there...would the fish be ok or would the frogs eat them?! Keep up the good work, nice blog speak soon.

Yes you can put in goldfish. If you have large bullfrogs, they will eat the goldfish, but generally speaking the goldfish reproduce fast enough that the frogs cannot get to all of them. Toads will not eat goldfish.
Thanks for the kudos.
